About
Mayra Prestes

I'm currently working at the architecture studio Nine Yards. I got my bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal Fluminense University (UFF) in Brazil. I gained a scholarship from the government to study Interior Design for a year as an exchange student at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) in Ireland where I did an internship at Keating Architects. I was born in Rio, studied in Rio's metropolitan and worked as an intern architect for Fstudio and Candido Arquitetura.
While getting my degree I was part of the research project “Architecture of Violence” in which I studied how violence has “designed” a new pattern of architecture in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. As a result of this research group, an article was published in the book “Gentrification as Global Strategy: Neil Smith and Beyond by Routledge”, in which I'm a co-author along with other members of the research team.
Later I decided to pursue my Diploma in Graphic Design at Holland College in Charlottetown where I currently live. I speak English and Portuguese and am currently learning French.
I am passionate about understanding clients’ needs and the ability to create practical experiences that solve problems for others. Designing new products comes naturally to me since my previous experience working independently as an architect allowed me to develop the skill of translating clients’ needs into practical products and solutions.
I am naturally curious with a wide range of interests. I also worked in the Graphic Design field as a Junior UX Designer at Thinking Big during the summer of 2023 where I learned about solving problems through the user perspective, intuitive UI, app development, user testing and OOUX. You can see my graphic design portfolio here.
The software I use is Revit, Autocad, Sketchup, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Figma.
I would love to connect, please reach out.
